The 2025 RSX Debuts On Honda’s New EV Platform, Featuring The ASIMO OS And Innovative Die-Cast Production

Acura has announced the revival of its iconic RSX nameplate as an all-electric vehicle (EV). The new RSX electric SUV, which begins road testing this week, represents several noteworthy firsts for both Acura and its parent company Honda.
The RSX will be the first to utilize Honda’s new proprietary EV platform, marking a departure from the company’s previous collaboration with General Motors (GM) that produced the Acura ZDX. More significantly, it will be the inaugural EV to roll off the assembly line at Honda’s newly established EV Hub in Ohio, where the company has undertaken extensive facility modifications to accommodate EV production.
“The RSX nameplate returns to the Acura brand with its coupe-like silhouette, but it truly represents a forward-looking approach to fun-to-drive performance,” explains Mike Langel, Assistant Vice President of Acura National Sales.
Moreover, the RSX’s design, which draws inspiration from the Acura Performance EV Concept unveiled during the 2024 Monterey Car Week, features a distinctive fastback profile that pays homage to its sporty predecessor while embracing contemporary SUV proportions.

The Ohio production plant is undergoing a tremendous transformation to prepare for RSX production. Among the most notable additions are six 6,000-ton high-pressure die cast machines at the Anna Engine Plant, which will produce megacast cases for the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) – a crucial component housing the vehicle’s battery system. This manufacturing innovation designates a first for Honda globally and signals the company’s commitment to advanced production methods.
“The establishment of the Honda EV Hub represents not only the start of EV production but the complete reimagining of our approach to manufacturing,” says Mike Fischer, executive chief engineer and leader of Honda’s North American BEV Project. The plant has been designed to maintain exceptional flexibility, capable of producing internal combustion, hybrid-electric, and battery EVs on the same manufacturing line.
Furthermore, the RSX EV will feature Honda’s new ASIMO operating system, introduced at CES 2025. This advanced OS promises to deliver regular over-the-air (OTA) updates for both user experience and vehicle dynamics, allowing for continuous improvement of the driving experience throughout ownership.
Currently undergoing development testing, prototype models are sporting a specially designed camouflage wrap created by Acura’s global design team. The distinctive pattern incorporates sophisticated elements that suggest light emerging through the camouflage, symbolizing the vehicle’s blend of strength and refinement.
The launch of the RSX EV arrives as Acura continues to expand its vehicle lineup. Particularly, the electric RSX represents Acura’s vision for the future, combining the brand’s performance heritage with cutting-edge electric technology and advanced manufacturing processes.
As Acura’s first all-electric SUV built on Honda’s new proprietary platform, it sets the stage for a future where cutting-edge technology and bold design converge. With production scheduled to begin later this year at the Ohio plant, the RSX will mark a crucial milestone in Acura’s journey toward an electrified future.
