Hyundai has revealed its April 2024 sales figures with its electric vehicle (EV) sales in the United States (U.S.) seeing a major uptick led by its IONIQ 5 reaching a record 59% increase for its best retail month ever. In addition, Hyundai’s EV sales witness an overall increase of 26% in April 2024.

Hyundai reported a total of 68,603 units sold for its April sales figures. The results showcase a 3% decline compared to last year’s sales figures in the same month. Even though the company saw a small dip in its overall sales, its EV lineup is taking the spotlight with noticeable growth for its hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and especially its battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The standout model that led Hyundai’s EV sales numbers is its IONIQ 5, followed by its IONIQ 6, which saw a 41% increase in sales. Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, expressed about the IONIQ 5 leading the charge in its EV sales numbers stating, “Hyundai electrified sales continue to perform well and climbed 26% in year-over-year growth, led by the IONIQ 5 which was up 59%.”

With Hyundai making major strides in its EV sales in the U.S., certain EV models have also gained recognition in the public eye for their excellence. In terms of the IONIQ 6, it received the Best Value New Car in the EV segment by Cars.com, and its IONIQ 5 robotaxi passed a simulated driver’s license test, which marked the first to succeed the driver’s test.

Furthermore, Hyundai has also gained more traction in the public by having certain EV models attempt new records outside of its sales numbers. One example of this case is the entry of Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 N competing in the upcoming Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 23. With these actions conducted by Hyundai to reach new heights for its EV lineup, the company is heading to new avenues that can retrieve benefits in the long run.

With Hyundai’s sister company, Kia, also achieving new records with its April 2024 EV sales, the trajectory of pushing boundaries for both companies is heading up nicely with no signs of stopping. Moreover, Hyundai has also been making innovative and strategic actions by partnering with several other companies like SES AI and Toray Industries to improve its EV technology. With more innovation and diversification in Hyundai’s EV lineup, the company is placing itself in an upward position that will capitalize on the EV market.
