Kia’s Year-To-Date EV Sales Nearly Doubled From The Previous Year With A 99% Increase
Kia America has reported record-breaking electric vehicle (EV) sales in July 2024, marking a strong momentum for the company’s EV strategy in the United States (U.S.) market.
According to Kia, the standout performer in the company’s EV lineup is the EV9. Since its late 2023 U.S. launch, the EV9 sold 1,815 units in July alone and a total of nearly 11,500 deliveries through the first seven months of 2024. Moreover, Kia’s year-to-date EV volume nearly doubled compared to the previous year, showcasing a 99% increase.
As for Kia’s overall July sales, the company reported total July sales of 63,580 units, with SUVs accounting for 76% and electrified models making up 18% of the total.
Eric Watson, Vice President of Sales Operations at Kia America, expressed confidence in the company’s future stating, “We are confident that consumer interest in the Kia brand will continue to strengthen.”
In terms of domestic production, Kia’s first U.S.-built EV9 rolled off the assembly line at its West Point, Georgia plant in June. This milestone not only marks the first EV fully assembled in the state but also qualifies the EV9 for the $7,500 EV tax credit, potentially driving further sales growth in the latter half of 2024.
Kia is also expanding its EV offerings globally. The company recently opened pre-orders for the EV3 in South Korea, securing over 10,000 reservations in just 23 days. In addition, the Kia EV4 was spotted testing in Europe, potentially signalling its upcoming launch.
As Kia was recently named among TIME magazine’s “World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024,” the company’s expansion of its EV offerings appears well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for EVs. With record-breaking sales and increasing buyer interest, Kia’s transformation from a budget-friendly brand to a leader in the EV space seems well underway.
