XPeng AeroHT, the flying car subsidiary of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer XPeng, has unveiled its plans for bringing a modular flying car to market.
In detail, XPeng AeroHT aims to start deliveries in 2026, with a price tag of under 2 million yuan ($280,000). XPeng AeroHT’s modular flying car, dubbed the “Land Aircraft Carrier,” consists of two main components:
The ground vehicle is based on an 800V high-voltage platform with an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain. It delivers a mixed range of 1,000 km (621 miles) (CLTC) and can charge the vehicle from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes. The aircraft vehicle itself can support 5 to 6 flights on a full charge and offers both manual and automatic driving modes.
XPeng AeroHT has outlined an ambitious timeline for bringing its modular flying car to market with the first public manned flight demonstration at the Zhuhai Airshow occurring in November 2024 with pre-sales beginning in late 2024. Moreover, the first prototype is expected to roll off production lines on July 31, 2025, and mass production and buyer deliveries starting in 2026.
The new Guangzhou plant is planned to have an annual production capacity of over 10,000 units, positioning XPeng AeroHT to potentially become the world’s largest producer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles.
In March 2024, the flying component of the Land Aircraft Carrier, codenamed X3-F, achieved a significant milestone by obtaining airworthiness certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of Central and Southern China (CAAC).
Founded in 2013 with financial backing from XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng, XPeng AeroHT has been at the forefront of eVTOL development for over a decade. The company has announced a total of five flying car concepts to date and has conducted nearly 20,000 flight tests.
Furthermore, Zhao Deli, founder and president of XPeng AeroHT, expressed the company’s ambitious goals, stating, “We aim to deliver more eVTOLs than all other manufacturers worldwide combined.”
As the company moves closer to its 2026 launch date, potential buyers will be watching the November 2024 public demonstration at the Zhuhai Airshow, which will provide the first real-world glimpse of this revolutionary vehicle in action.
