With VinFast progressing with its electric vehicle (EV) strategy across the globe, the company has officially started shipping its mini SUV, the VF 3, with prices starting under $13,000.
Introduced in January 2024, the VF 3 is designed to make sustainable city travel more accessible. During the initial pre-order period, VinFast offered the EV at a special introductory price of 235 million VND (around $9,248) with a battery subscription model. A full-price option including the battery, was briefly available for 315 million VND (around $12,400).
The pricing strategy proved to be successful with VinFast securing a record-breaking 27,649 pre-orders within just 66 hours, setting a new benchmark in the Vietnamese automotive landscape.
With current prices for the VF 3 starting at 322 million VND (around $12,800), VinFast aims to deliver at least 20,000 units by the end of 2024 as production ramps up. Moreover, the company offers flexible payment options including a down payment of 50 to 70 million VND ($2,000 to $2,750) with the remainder financed over eight years according to VinFast.
Furthermore, the VF 3 is aimed to launch in the Philippines later this year with further releases planned for Europe, Southeast Asia, and the United States (U.S.) in 2025. For the U.S. market, the VF 3 is projected to be priced under $20,000.
Despite the strong start for the VF 3, VinFast has adjusted its overall 2024 sales target from 100,000 to 80,000 units. However, this still represents a strong increase from the nearly 35,000 units delivered in 2023.
As VinFast’s VF 3 becomes a key strategy to be more accessible to a wider range of buyers, its compact size and affordable price point will set to accelerate EV adoption in urban environments across multiple markets.
