Since Kia teased its first images of its upcoming EV3 electric vehicle (EV) earlier in May, the company has now officially revealed the full details and specs with a scheduled launch later in the summer.
In terms of the EV3 specs, it features a front-wheel-drive (FWD) electric powertrain on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) in two trims: a Standard model with a 58.3kWh battery and a Long Range model with an 81.4kWh battery. Both trims possess a 50kW electric motor.
As for the range of the EV3, the Long Range trim comes with a WLTP driving range of up to 600 km (around 370 miles) and its acceleration from 0 to 60 mph is around 7.5 seconds for both trims. With 202 horsepower and a top speed of 170km/h (around 105 miles), the Long Range trim can also charge from 10% to 80% in merely 31 minutes.
Drawing inspiration from its iconic EV9 model, the EV3 delivers a new standard in the compact EV SUV segment with new innovative aspects that set it apart in the market. For the exterior design, the EV3 portrays a bold appearance characterized by Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy, blending dynamic aesthetics with practical functionality. In detail, the EV3 features Kia’s iconic Tiger Face design and unique Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) with vertical headlamps, an SUV C-pillar design, a dynamic roofline, and a futuristic tailgate design. Particularly, the GT-line trim for the EV3 comes in a sportier appearance with a rugged design.
For the interior, the EV3 is practical with its space being utilized functionally with comfort in mind. Several features include a sliding table, multi-adjustable ambient lighting, and seats with relaxation mode. There is also a near-30-inch widescreen display with a 12.3-inch cluster, a 5-inch air-conditioning panel, another 12.3-inch AVN display, Kia’s Premium Streaming service, and a Harman Kardon audio system. Notably, the EV3 comes with ample space with a 25-liter frunk and a 460-liter rear load capacity. Importantly, recycled fabric and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) are used throughout the interior with sustainability in mind.
In regards to innovative and safety features, the EV3 brings Kia’s new i-Pedal 3.0 regenerative braking system, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities, and a new AI Assistant. The AI Assistant comes from OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which will improve navigation, productivity, and overall driving experience including its functions to support travel planning while bringing benefits from the EV3’s entertainment and information search.
Kia’s President and CEO, Ho Sung Song, expressed the EV3’s role in the company’s lineup stating, “By providing groundbreaking design, an industry-leading electric drivetrain, and practical, innovative lifestyle solutions, the EV3 aims to extend Kia’s exceptional EV SUV experience to a wider audience.”
Kia’s EV3 will be scheduled to release in South Korea in July 2024 with a European launch later in the second half of the year. The EV3 also has not been scheduled for a U.S. release. Furthermore, the starting price has not been announced yet but has been reported to be set at an affordable price around $32,000. With the EV3 joining Kia’s current lineup, the company will be offering more choices to the EV market while elevating its position in the EV industry.
