Kia Georgia has started production with its West Point assembly plant in Georgia for its 2025 Kia EV9 electric vehicle (EV) SUV. This marked a historical milestone as the first EV assembled in the West Point assembly plant.
Kia Georgia celebrated the historical milestone with notable attendance by Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp and James Watson, Kia Georgia’s Vice President of Production, alongside SeungKyu (Sean) Yoon, President and CEO for Kia North America and Kia America.
Kemp expressed praise for Kia Georgia’s historical milestone stating, “ I want to congratulate the Kia Georgia team members on today’s achievement and thank them for choosing the Peach State yet again as we work to become the e-mobility capital of the nation.”
Previously, the Kia Goergia’s West Point assembly plant only had the Telluride, Sorento, and Sportage models. With the addition of the EV9, Kia Georgia’s assembly roster has added an EV through an investment of over $200 million that also led creating around 200 new jobs at the plant.
Notably, the new EV9 production in Georgia was aimed to be eligible for the $7,500 EV tax credit, leveraging the incentive with local production for further appeal. With the EV9 already collected several accolades including winning 2024 World Car of the Year and 2024 World Electric Car at the New York International Auto Show to winning ‘Best of the Best at the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2024, having additional incentives with the federal EV tax credit will heighten its position in the EV market.
Furthermore, SeungKyu Yoon, President and CEO for Kia North America and Kia America, expressed the significant presence of the EV9 in the West Point plant stating, “Having achieved prestigious accolades such as World Car of the Year, World EV of the Year, and North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, EV9 will be in excellent hands with the team members at Kia Georgia and their track record for assembling award-winning, world-renowned products speaks for itself.”
Following the production of the 2025 Kia EV9 in the West Point plant, the company is anticipating increased success for it in the U.S. market as recent reports have it track to exceed the 50,000-unit milestone within its first year of launch due to high demand in global EV markets. With the Kia EV9 becoming the beacon of success for the company, Kia Georgia’s transition to adding more EVs to its roster is making progress.
