ChargePoint has unveiled an innovative AI-powered driver support tool that aims to significantly enhance the diagnosis and repair of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, marking a first in the industry.
According to ChargePoint, the newly launched software utilizes artificial intelligence to swiftly identify and resolve issues with charging stations. This advancement is part of ChargePoint’s ongoing goal of improving charging station uptime and dependability.
Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, expressed the importance of this development stating, “By deploying AI technology that can diagnose hardware issues, ChargePoint has a critical new tool joining our Network Operations Center to ensure station uptime. This technology will enable us to triage and resolve physical issues that cannot be detected via remote monitoring, demonstrating our commitment to innovations which deliver a reliable charging network.”
The new system is designed with user experience in mind. EV owners encountering a non-functional charging station can easily report the issue through an enhanced “report a problem” feature in the ChargePoint app. Users can submit photos of the problematic charger, which the AI then analyzes for anomalies.
Key features of the new system include:
Despite the doubling of charger installations under the Biden administration and ongoing expansion efforts by various networks and automakers, charger reliability remains a significant hurdle to widespread EV adoption.
In response, ChargePoint’s AI solution addresses this challenge head-on, potentially setting a new standard for the industry. By reducing the need for physical inspections and expediting the repair process, the company aims to substantially improve the overall charging experience for EV owners.
As ChargePoint recently hit one million global charging ports, this AI-driven approach could play a pivotal role in ensuring that its growing infrastructure is not just present, but consistently operational and reliable.
