Škoda has officially unveiled its latest electric vehicle (EV), the Elroq, marking a significant step in the company’s push towards affordable electric mobility. Set to hit the market in Q1 2025, the Elroq promises to deliver substantial value in the compact electric SUV segment.
According to Škoda, the Elroq is the company’s second EV following the Enyaq. With a starting price of around €33,000 (around $36,533) in selected European markets, the Elroq offers more space and features for the money.
At 4.48 meters long, the Elroq sits between compact sedans and larger SUVs, providing a spacious interior despite its compact exterior. The EV arrives with a boot capacity of 470 liters, expandable to 1,580 liters with the rear seats folded down.
The Škoda Elroq will be available in four trims at launch:
The top-tier models can achieve a maximum range of over 560 km (around 347 miles) (WLTP) and a top speed of 180 km/h (around 112 mph). The entry-level Elroq 50 still offers an impressive range of over 370 km (around 229 miles).
As for charging capabilities, they are are equally impressive, with the largest battery variant able to charge from 10% to 80% in just 28 minutes at a maximum rate of 175 kW.
Notably, the Škoda Elroq will also be offered in a Sportline trim, featuring a unique interior design enhanced by carbon-look accents and a lowered chassis (15 mm in the front and 10 mm in the rear). This trim showcases typical black exterior elements. Moreover, the Sportline trim includes sporty seats with integrated headrests, upholstered in Suedia material with grey stitching for a stylish touch.
The Elroq introduces Skoda’s new “Modern Solid” design language, featuring a distinctive “Tech-Deck-Face” front end that houses sensors for driving assistance systems. The EV also showcases Skoda’s signature “Simply Clever” features, including a net under the parcel shelf for convenient charging cable storage.
For the interior, the Elroq offers a 13-inch infotainment display, head-up display with augmented reality functions, and a range of advanced driver assistance systems. Skoda has opted for traditional steering wheel buttons and a center console gear selector, appealing to drivers who prefer a more conventional layout.
Interior options include sustainable materials such as RecyTitan fabric, containing 78% recycled PET and 6% recycled clothing fibers. The Loft version features anthracite grey upholstery with Moss Green stitching, while the Lodge trim uses TechnoFil material, a blend of recycled ECONYL fiber and polyester.
Klaus Zellmer, Skoda CEO, emphasized the Elroq’s significance stating, “The Škoda Elroq is our first BEV model in the compact SUV class, the fastest-growing and most popular sub-segment in Europe. A wide choice of battery sizes and an excellent drag coefficient enable a range of more than 560 kilometres.”
With its competitive pricing, spacious interior, and advanced features, the Skoda Elroq is poised to make a significant impact in the electric SUV market when it launches in early 2025. The EV will be available for configuration from October 2, 2024, with the Elroq 50, Elroq 85, and a special First Edition model.
