The INSTER Cross distinguishes itself from the base model with a range of rugged design elements aimed at adventure enthusiasts. The exterior features distinctive 17-inch alloy wheels, redesigned front and rear bumpers, exclusive side skirts, and protective black cladding. Practical additions include roof rails and full-projection LED headlights, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal.

Under the hood, the Cross variant maintains the same powertrain specifications as the standard model, featuring a 49 kWh battery that delivers a respectable WLTP range of 223 miles. The single front motor produces 115 horsepower (85.5 kW) and 108 pound-feet of torque, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 10.6 seconds. While the Cross model sports a rugged appearance, it is worth noting that all-wheel drive is not currently offered.

Moreover, the EV model’s efficiency is enhanced by standard features including a battery heating system and heat pump, which help optimize both range and charging performance across various weather conditions. Inside the cabin, drivers will find a thoroughly modern interface featuring dual 10.25-inch screens – one serving as the digital instrument cluster and the other as the infotainment display, both supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Hyundai has paid particular attention to the interior design, offering a unique color scheme exclusive to the Cross model that features grey cloth upholstery with distinctive lime-yellow accents. The cabin includes practical amenities such as reclining and sliding rear seats with a 50/50 split, heated front seats and steering wheel, and an electric-opening glass sunroof.

In addition, the company offers five exterior color options, including a striking new Amazonas Green Matte finish. While Natural Ivory comes at no additional cost, other choices range from Atlas White at £300 ($365) to premium matte finishes like Aero Silver and Amazonas Green at £800 (around $974).

Advanced Driver Assistance and Warranty

Furthermore, the INSTER Cross incldues several safety and driver assistance features including Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with multiple detection capabilities, Highway Drive Assist, and Smart Cruise Control with stop-and-go functionality. An optional Tech Pack adds Vehicle-to-Load functionality with an internal three-pin plug and a Digital Key system.

Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, emphasizes the strategic importance of this launch, stating that the Cross variant “only furthers the versatility and appeal” of the Inster EV line while reinforcing Hyundai’s position as an industry leader in electrification.

Additionally, the EV model arrives with Hyundai’s robust warranty package, including a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, an 8-year/100,000-mile high-voltage battery warranty, and various service and support programs. This comprehensive coverage adds considerable value to the competitive pricing strategy.

The INSTER Cross is now available for order in the UK, with deliveries expected to begin in May. This launch follows Hyundai’s recent introduction of the standard INSTER EV in Japan, where it is positioned as the company’s most affordable EV at around $18,000.

As a result, the introduction of the INSTER Cross designates a noteworthy step in Hyundai’s electrification strategy, offering a compelling combination of adventure-ready styling, practical features, and competitive pricing in the rapidly growing electric SUV segment.
